Pirate Performers performed “It’s a Wonderful Life Radio Show” on Sunday, Dec, 17 in the Wilson Auditorium due to students wanting more shows to perform.
“It’s based on the movie from the 1940s, the black and white old-time movie,” Theater teacher Erica Glidewell said. “It’s actually a staged radio show, it’s meant to be performed on stage as a radio so you don’t watch it, you listen to it more with the sound effects.”
The class requested more performances this year, which meant more work.
“In our pirate performer class last year, students requested to do more shows, so I said we’ll add in one more show for the holiday season.”
They worked quickly to have the show ready in only three and a half weeks as a class project. The class directed the whole show themselves and the actors played more than one character.
“It’s more of a reader’s theater which means that they have scripts in their hands, so it’s not all memorized as usual. It’s more movement so it’s still a performance but it’s also student-directed so each student in class got some experience for about four to five pages.”
“It’s A Wonderful Life Radio Show” is based on a 1940s movie radio broadcast, the iconic world of George Bailey and his affable helper angel, Clarence, unfolds as never before. Featuring an ensemble cast, holiday music, and sound effects performed LIVE on stage, this beloved, holiday classic is a treat for the entire family!
