There are many places in the world that have haunted buildings. However not many would expect one of the places would be right under our noses. Kansas City, while often known for its barbeque, is also home to many haunted houses and buildings alike.
One of which is a winery and inn. Belvoir Winery was originally established in 1900 as the Odd Fellows Home District. Originally, the district had multiple buildings on the property, each serving its purpose. A home for the elderly, a hospital, and a school for children. Around this area, there was also a cemetery that was home to over 600 bodies.
Now in the winery, people with no idea of the past of the place will come around for tastings, weddings, and other events, however, many have experienced rather strange encounters. Some say they have spotted the spirit of an old woman singing while other visitors recount seeing countless children on the property, playing or singing.
Others, while not seeing anything strange, have heard strange sounds including odd voices, children giggling, or sometimes even seeing the piano play with no assistance.
Another building with some otherworldly residents is the 21C Museum Hotel Kansas City, which was formerly known as Hotel Savoy. The 21C Museum Hotel has been providing people with a place to stay or work, however, it seems as though some residents have decided they don’t want to leave. The hotel itself has been around for over 100 years and in that time there have been two tragedies that have been the most talked about. The death of Betsy Ward in room 505 and the murder of the restaurant manager by the dishwashers on the second floor in 1990.
Over the years guests who have stayed in room 505 have reported strange noises and occurrences, including hearing music when nothing that could play music is on. However, besides the unknown death of Betsy Ward and the murder of a restaurant manager, there is one other spirit who makes her presence known. A little girl on the fourth floor, dressed in a Victorian style, can be seen wandering around along with the ghost of a man whose apartment seemed to originally be on the fourth floor. The entire hotel has had many reports in its time of strange sounds, some of the main ones being that of voices, laughter, and even the strange sights of shadows found throughout the hotel.
However, despite these strange visitors, guests are more than glad to book a room at the 21 C Museum Hotel and host their tastings, weddings, and events at the Belvoir Winery. So if you’re interested, make sure you book a stay with the plan of leaving.
