Courtwarming is this week to recognize all the winter sports including wrestling, basketball, dance, and swim. The royalty was announced for the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes. The queen for the senior class was also announced and the senior class king will be crowned during the home basketball game on Friday, Feb 2.
“I was nominated by Student Council,” senior Queen Alex Beeman said. “I knew most of the seniors in Student Council had already been on court before so I thought it might be me [to get nominated].”
Beeman won Courtwarming Queen this year as well as royalty her freshman year which was very exciting for her.
“I won freshman year and I called my grandma and told her, and she told me that she was really proud because to win, it means that you have to be nice to people…so I remembered that from freshman year and carried that into this year,” Beeman said.
All the winners from the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes will walk to be recognized at the assembly and all the candidates from the senior class will also walk. The assembly on Friday will also feature the cheerleader teacher dance.
“For the cheer part I’m dancing with CJ Elmore, for the dancing part I have a little solo thing with Layauna Nelson and Mrs. Frame,” journalism teacher Devan Foos said.
Foos was on the dance team in high school and also did the assembly dance for court warming last year.
“I missed the first week of practices…Coach Jarnagin sent out videos, I didn’t even end up watching them, and then I went to practice every day this week to try and learn [the dances],” Foos said.
The dance team is also doing dances with teachers like Foos, Chelsea Rhor, Ashlyn Brantley and more, and also without. They will be performing to “Swag Surf”, “Dance the Night Away”, and “Forever”.
The spirit weekdays leading to the assembly started on Monday, Jan. 29. Monday: pajama day, Tuesday: twin day, Wednesday: pink day, county vs. country club, and Friday: pirate pride. Courtwarming will end with the winter dance on Saturday, Feb 3 at 7p.m. in the cafeteria.
