School can be hard. Work can be difficult. But having to manage the two at the same time can be extra tough. If this is you, you’re not alone. There are so many kids that manage work and school and think it is hard too. It’s definitely stressful trying to balance it all at once. How do you do it? Well, that is why we have called seniors Benjamin Oliver and Jordan Miller to give us some advice along with some of their very own experiences.
Benjamin Oliver works Monday through Thursdays, some Fridays, and Sundays at Quick trip or the fire department. He works eight hour shifts at Quick Trip, and on call for the fire department.
“No, [it isn’t hard to juggle school and work],” Oliver said. “[I would rate the difficulty] a five out of ten, probably. I mean, it is a little difficult because we don’t get breaks, we don’t get to sit down. We are also fast paced here but it does go by quickly because of that.”
Oliver has two jobs that he has to handle with completely different tasks, which along with a long shift after school, can be daunting.
“I would say the fire department [is the harder job between the two] but then it can be easier because an eight hour shift can be pretty exhausting,” Oliver said.
His toughest challenge would be to get enough sleep in the week. Some advice Oliver wants to give anyone with a similar situation is, “Sleep when you can.”
Jordan Miller works at Fettermans. He works three to four hours a day, Mondays through Thursdays. When asked about his opinion on working and going to school, he has mixed feelings.
“Both good and bad ways. Good; because I get money. And bad, because I close [at work] so I get home late and it affects my sleep schedule.”
Miller not only finds it difficult to get enough sleep, but also notices limited time to do homework. Miller also plays football. So, he balances sports, work, and school all at once.
“[I would rate the difficulty] Probably a six or seven because there isn’t a lot of time for homework but you can do it on the weekend,” Miller said. “It is just a little bit harder to manage it all but it’s really mainly just the homework part.”
If you have the same problem as Miller then some advice is, “Just keep working and making money.”
