These periods are coming in pretty spread out spanning almost 550 million years, but each one has an order and a reason for their ranking. These rankings are given out based on the “coolness” of the era and whether it would be exciting for a teenage boy to dream about them.
Coming in at number ten is the Paleozoic Era because of its relatively boring nature and lack of fun. The Paleozoic era was very early in the development of life and can be characterized as only having aquatic plant life and marine life with very little life being on land. Without the addition of dinosaurs or man, this era is very bland, and there are no cool events, which makes the Paleozoic era take the number ten spot.
Next is the Stone Age, which comes with the upgrade of humans, though they only really throw sticks and stones. The Stone Age itself was still very early in the development of humans, and there were no real perks of the human mind like fast food, cool cars, or exotic cities. Without these benefits, the Stone Age is still bland, but with the number nine spot, it is still better than the uncool Paleozoic era.
In the number eight spot is the Classical Era, which is a lot closer to our current age but is still pretty dull and mainly encompasses European culture. The age is characterized by the classics of arts, with literature, music, art, and science being defined by their development and change to better match the “classic” style of ancient Greece and Rome. Though most of this art and literature can be seen as interesting to some, it is not abstract and fits into the monotonous structure of the “classics” giving the period the number eight spot.
With the number seven spot, we have the Bronze Age, which is a step up from the stone age as new technology was introduced with the implementation of metal. Swords, bows, spears, and clubs were used at this time as there were many more people and a lot more conflict, which would have been cool to see. However, there were not many big conflicts as the earth’s population was still relatively small, giving the Bronze Age the number seven spot based on its low-scale warfare.
Next though, is the Iron Age, which is the pinnacle of the bronze and stone ages that came before it. The three ages are known as the metal ages, and iron is the most useful metal of them all as it is stronger and more durable, letting tools and weapons forged from it be more useful. Having the perks of the previous metal ages the Iron Age is just the culmination of its predecessor, giving it the number six spot.
Next in the number five spot is the Modern Age because of its great importance in world history. Unlike the classic age, the modern age is broader in the context of the world and contains many major events like the Enlightenment, many world wars, the development of science and technology, and the globalization of a fast-growing world. These characteristics make the Modern Era take the number five spot because even though it was good, the rest of the periods just get better from here on out.
In fourth place is the Viking period, which comes in fourth for its obvious “coolness” factor. The period saw a lot of violence and chaos from the pillaging and conquest of Vikings across Europe, which is glamorized in a lot of texts and novels. Who wouldn’t want to be in a Viking long ship on their way to war and conquest to fulfill their duty as a warrior and allow themselves into Valhalla? So for these intense characteristics, the Viking period comes in at number four.
Starting the top three of this list is the Far Future, which we all know is going to be a jam. With the current development of science, we can only dream of the new types of inventions that will be seen in the far future that will make life even better than it is currently. From flying cars, advanced virtual reality, cyber tech, living on Mars, or even exploring the solar system. The Far Future really has a lot that it can offer, which gives it the number three spot.
Up next in the number two spot is the Medieval Era, which in the mind of a teenager is a wonderland of adventure. From fictitious dragons to ginormous castles, or even being a paladin of the holy church, the Medieval Era does not miss when it comes to fun and excitement. In this period you could be a king or a queen, controlling your little kingdom and eating a giant turkey leg, which even thinking about gives me the excited heebie-jeebies. This age is just a blast for anyone who likes feudalism, and it makes the Medieval Era come in at the number two spot.
Though, in the number one spot, taking the title as the best period ever is the Jurassic period. The Jurassic period is the best because dinosaurs just rule supreme and who doesn’t like a giant T-Rex because they are just cool? Out of all the periods of dinosaurs, the Jurassic period is also just the best as it has the best dinosaurs like the Tyrannosaurs, Velociraptor, Triceratops, Allosaurus, Brachiosaurus, and even the Pterodactyl. Even the idea that such large creatures used to roam the same earth that we now live on shows how great the dinosaurs were. So many films and games have been made around dinosaurs and they are just a dream come true for a teenager, making the Jurassic period the number one time period.
