Girls golf recently placed 2nd with 403 points at the Oak Park invitational. As well as being back to back regional champions. Golf had their conference champion meet at Hoots Hollow, Oct. 2 at 8:30 am but did not take first place as they had every conference match since 2016..
“It’s a big thing to have to go on to conference considering it would be our 8th title. We have to go into it thinking positive,” said junior Ella Green heading into conference.
“Sometimes it’s a lot and people get down on themselves. You have to go into it with a positive attitude, knowing we can show our best and participate our best.”
Two seniors going into the season had been with the team for three of their titles at conference.
“I was excited to go into conference but we knew that we did have as strong of a team as we did. We were all expecting the outcome,” senior Lilly Rickets said. “It was a little upsetting but we saw it coming. There were a few people who didn’t feel ready. The coaches expected us to get the 8th title, maybe we could have pulled it off.”
Despite not taking first place at conference, Rickets made a record taking herself to state all 4 years of high school, the first in PCHS golf history to do so.
With senior Mac Borland being interviewed after conference she shared her opinion on how she felt it went and what the team had gotten out of it
“I felt good going into conference. I’ve played the course multiple times before. I wasn’t super nervous about it.” Borland said. “I think the team was very nervous. We had had a couple of players who have never really played before and have only ever played the course once. It was a bummer with it being my senior year to lose the 8th title. I think we were all trying to be positive. We didn’t shoot our best, it was kind of hard to keep the energy up.”
Junior Ella Green shot a 71 at state, making a school record for low round, winning her first state medal ending in 6th place.
