The Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl victory parade turned into a scene of horror as gunfire erupted during the parade on February 14.
Kansas City locals and Chiefs football fans all gathered together for the parade, wearing red and yellow, to cheer on their team and embrace the Super Bowl win against the 49ers. However, the day took a tragic turn when shots were fired across the crowds.
The sound of gunfire shocked many into a frenzy. Sending some into panic and others into running. The casualties that took place included one death and more than 20 shots. This includes children who were just there in innocence to have fun. Lisa Lopez-Galvan was the name given to the woman who was murdered.
The motive behind the shooting is still unknown. Kansas City Mayor expressed condolences to the victims and their families. Taylor Swift, who is dating Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, donated $100,000 to the family of Galvan.
Through this devastating tragedy, Kansas City has been brought closer together. The community has taken care of each other the best that they can.
Because of the public shooting, it leads to questions to do with public safety. Further precautions and security will now have to be added to what should be joyous events.
