Halloween is one of the most festive seasons besides Christmas, where everyone dresses up and goes trick or treating or stays home and watches Halloween movies. Every year on Halloween, parents dress up their kids in fun costumes, but what about our furry friends?
All kinds of people dress up for Halloween; parents, kids, dogs, cats, teenagers and some buildings. Dogs are the most popular household pet to dress up on Halloween, but what about cats? There’s always been a huge controversy against cats. It’s either you are a dog person or a cat person.
When dressing up animals it all depends on the owner and what they want to do because sometimes dressing up animals can be a lot of effort, especially when you try to put on their costume and they don’t like it so they start squirming. Some animals hate costumes, especially cats. They scratch or hiss at you when they don’t like having a costume on. As teenagers get older they may not want to dress up for Halloween anymore, so instead they may dress their animals up, in order to express the love they had for the holiday as a kid.
But, there are so many types of costumes that animals can be dressed up as, such as bees, pumpkins, superheroes, lobsters, fruit and so much more.
Halloween has its fun perks, seeing animals dressed up as different things is just another perk that comes with the season, and can help add to the fun atmosphere of the Halloween season.
You can find it in Target, Spirit Halloween, Petsmart, Petco, Amazon, or anywhere really that has Halloween costumes. Usually prices for costumes range from $12-25 plus, which is a normal range for costumes except usually human costumes cost way more. Human costumes range from $30-100.
People also DIY costumes, which is just buying the materials yourself and making it into a costume either for animals or humans. Most people DIY costumes so that it will be cheaper than buying a really expensive one online or in person. Creative people or people who have creative ideas for costumes usually make it themselves. Making a homemade costume usually takes more time and dedication because of how much is spent on it and how much time it may take to fully put it together.
When dressing up a cat for Halloween, it is not something that takes very long because all you do is buy or make a costume for your cat and put it on them. The difficult part may be putting the costume on because any animal tends to want to fight back when being dressed up, especially cats. They have to be held or held down so you can even put the costume on. If your cat doesn’t like having a costume on, when they have something on their head or over them they might immediately start trying to take it off and start freaking out, because it may cause them discomfort.
Cats are very sensitive animals that may not be used to having clothing on, so when being put in a costume they are put in a very stressful situation. When cats are in a costume and have a hat or something on their ears it may flatten their ears and is tight around their neck which can be uncomfortable for them. Cats rely on their hearing to make them feel safe so when a hat is on them and flattens their ears they freak out.
If you really want to dress up your cat you may want to try to get them comfortable with the costume before Halloween. You can desensitize your cat’s costume which means changing it to make sure it isn’t triggering any response. This can require time and patience, and if that doesn’t work there are alternatives. Alternatives for cat costumes would be incorporating them into your costume, for example Pooh and Tigger, Tom and Jerry, Team Rocket and the cat could be Meowth. This way the costume won’t be as harmful for an animal as a regular costume, but you can still have fun incorporating your pet into the holiday.
Halloween can be fun for everybody, even our furry friends, we just have to make sure they’re comfortable and safe just like humans!
