1- #6495ED “cornflower blue”
Calm, serene, and such a classic name. Cornflower blue is a neutral shade of blue that can go with almost any other color. The cornflower itself is a beautiful weed, that finds elegance in the mundane fields where they grow.
2- #000080 “navy blue”
The night sky, the deep ocean, or even the naval academy itself reminds us of strength, power, and unity. These traits are very patriotic, which is the same emotion provoked when I think of the navy blue background of the stars on the American Flag.
3- #00CCFF “vivid sky blue”
This color reminds us all of a sunny day, which brings up the feeling of wonder and joy. This takes us back to the nostalgic times of cloudwatching in our youth.
4- #00FFFF “cyan”
Lisa Frank, Among Us, and more classic childhood memories get brought up with this vibrant color, all filled with colorful memories. The simplicity of this color’s name reminds us all of decorating your room with a cyan bed in Minecraft, with cyan sheep lighting up the fields.
5- #6699CC “winter lakes”
This color reminds me of a rainy day when fog fills the morning sky. When snow fills the ground and the only other color outside is the cloudy sky. It brings a sense of comfort to me, reminding me of getting cozy, studying while rain hits my window, and decorating for Christmas.
6- #00BFFF “deep sky blue”
This classic blue reminds me of swimming at my neighbor’s house at the beginning of summer, with the pool water twinkling in the sun. This memory brings a sense of excitement for the start of summer, sparking hope and freedom from the responsibilities that school brings.
7- #87CEFA “light sky blue”
This shade is reminiscent of when the sky is trying to peek through a cloud, signaling a sense of hope for brighter days to come. It is similar to the cover of Taylor Swift’s “Clean” (TV), which has lyrics about feeling clean from something after it ‘raining’, which brings a sense of refreshment.
8- #000f89 “phthalo blue”
This shade is almost so similar to navy but has a slight purple tone to it. This makes it feel like the end of a sunset, when the stars begin to fill the night sky. It is calming and brings a sense of tranquility.
9- #002147 “oxford blue”
This deep shade allows for bright colors to stand out even brighter. It reminds me of the quote, “Only when it is dark enough can you see the stars,” by Martin Luther King Jr. This makes me feel at peace, and is also very sybolic for hard times.
10- #00CED1 “turqouise blue”
This shade of ‘blue’ is green-adjacent, so of course it has to be pushed to the bottom of my top ten. It makes the list because the color itself reminds me of my grandma’s western-themed decor, full of orange and turquoise. I don’t particularly like the color, but I love the memories associated with it.
