Platte County’s football team obviously saw a lot of success this year, with the state championship and a 14-0 record. These achievements were a big accomplishment within the community, and it will be labeled as one of the best football seasons in the program’s history. However, what people don’t realize is all of the aspects that went into the seasons success. One of these was the managers, who offer a lot more than meets the eye, and do a lot behind the scenes, to help the football team succeed. It would have been extremely difficult for the Pirates to see the success they did without the managers.
This year there were a total of six managers, with four of them being seniors, they all had different roles, each a vital part of the team’s practice and games.
“On game day, I have two managers who are in the press box, and their primary responsibility was filming from the press box, and making sure all of our technology stuff ran smoothly.” Coach, Derek Yost said.
They also had managers taking care of field responsibilities on the sideline, such as ensuring all players had water. The remaining two managers were responsible for operating the end zone tower, where they got the film from the backside of the plays.
“They were really focused on tackle to tackle, and making sure they got that kind of stuff filmed.” Yost said
They also had unique and important roles in practices.
“[Senior]Eli [Cook]ran the drone at practice to get an overhead view, which was fantastic, it’s better than any other film out there,” Yost said.
When managers were introduced to Platte County it took a lot of load off of the coaches and allowed them to focus on coaching the team rather than managerial positions. All of these necessary tasks were spread out more across the staff and the managers, rather than being an overload of chores on the coaches.
While it may seem like a lot, all of the work is well worth it, and rewarding.
“Its involved work, and it takes a lot, but the kids who are committed to it get a lot out of it,” Yost said
The managers receive compensation in the idea that they know they are making a difference and providing for our whole team.
“We enjoy the community, and how everyone works as a team,” senior football manager Marrissa Whitmer said.
The team is currently looking for football managers for the next year, because of the four openings , that the seniors are leaving. If you are interested in the position you can reach ot to Coach Yost.
