Butt Out Booze is a DECA project created by senior Mason Salehi in partnership with seniors Jackson Edwards and Quentin Miller. The project aims to have a different take on preventing teenagers from drinking alcohol by doing funny skits and turning them into ads. In turn, they will post them on Spotify, Instagram, and Snapchat.
The different roles that Edwards and Miller play are Bob and Billy, and Salehi oversees them. There is a deeper meaning behind the characters Bob and Billy. “Bob is the embodiment of peer pressure,” Edwards said. Meanwhile “Billy is the embodiment of a clear-headed, level thinking one of the group. He’s the one that researched and seen all these facts about how alcohol is bad,” Miller said.
Salehi believes that this project is one that has great potential to make it far when he takes it to DECA competitions next semester.
“I will be taking it through the District, State, and International competitions,” Salehi said. “Hopefully State and International competition, I’m not sure if I’ll get to that point yet, but I’m optimistic.”
Salehi plans to attend college and continue working as a real estate agent, and hopes B.O.B can continue to make an impact when he no longer has time for it.
“After competition season is over, I don’t want my B.O.B to die out, so I will give it to another group I’m a part of called Youth Divisions and delegate the project over there.”
Youth Divisions is a group that focuses on mental health and alcohol prevention and Salehi believes they will use it to benefit their programs and the community.
