On Tuesday, Feb. 24, Platte County hosted the annual powderbuff volleyball tournament. This tournament consisted of teams from all grades. This tournament was not only for entertainment, it raised canned food and money to go towards the treasure chest for families in need.
“It helps fundraise too, with the cans, but even just get out and just have fun, because you have a lot of guys who don’t even play volleyball, but they just go out for the fun of it,” junior Alex MIller said “It’s also I think it was a fun experience to be able to play volleyball in a competitive way.”
The treasure chest is where the fundraising went. It’s an opportunity for families in need to get clothing, shoes, toiletries, and school supplies. The treasure chest also provides canned food, and fresh produce to those in need.
“It’s important because everyone comes together and plays, and some people, like most time boys, don’t play volleyball,” Senior Matt Cisco said. “It’s also a good event for StuCo to raise money for the treasure chest.”
The seniors went into this years powder buff game with high expectations since they won their sophomore and junior years but this year the juniors won it all and had a huge upset against the seniors.
“My [graduating class], you know, 2026 [is] obviously a special class for athletics in Platte County. So we just wanted to make sure that we won everything we could, and we won [powder buff] in sophomore year and junior year,” Senior Trent Beltcher said.
This year, many students were upset with how the powder buff game was played.
“Just the overall like changes, change of double elimination. It’s always been like that, and they changed that. It’s going off a time limit, I felt was really lame.” Beltcher said.
