Every Wednesday, the number one show on Amazon had been releasing new episodes of its last season, because “it was what Susannah would have wanted.” The Summer I Turned Pretty is making headlines and turning the heads of not only students but adults as well. The two sides have been getting passionate online and dividing the world peacefully and humorously.
“I’d always measured my life in summers. June to August was when everything that truly mattered happened—the salt on my skin, the easy rhythm of the waves, and the unspoken language between me and the boys. The rest of the year was just a waiting game, a dull prelude to the one perfect, magical season that always, without fail, brought me back to this beach house. But the summer I turned sixteen, I realized that some things, once broken, can never be fixed.”- Jenny Han (TSITP)
That is the opening to the first book of the series “The Summer I Turned Pretty”. The books were written 13 years before the first season was released, and they have left us on a cliffhanger every episode since. The third season is the last one, which is fully released as of Sept. 17.
“I think it’s good, I hate Jeremiah,” senior Samantha Corey said. “My favorite season was the second because Conrad was in it more.”
This is not an opinion she is alone in, as many others feel the same way toward the character Jeremiah Fisher in the show, who cheated on Belly twice, as well as taking a job in Boston without talking to his fiancée, Belly, first.
Ten people in the school hall, whether staff or students, were asked how they felt about Jeremiah, and 9 people said that they would pick Conrad Fisher any day, who is studying to become a doctor, and hasn’t dated another woman since he and Belly broke up in high school. Those same people were also asked if, after the show, they would read the books, and surprisingly, they all said yes.
This show enticed an audience of over 25 million viewers who now patiently await The Summer I Turned Pretty movie that was announced after the series finale.
