You walk in and are immediately greeted warmly by the smells as well as the smiling employees. You order your sandwich, and within 5 minutes, you have a hot Philly Cheesesteak in front of you. Since their opening in December 2022, Fetterman’s has received outstanding reviews. Becoming a Platte City staple is not an easy task; however, Scott Fetterman managed to do it.
“We’ve really built up a great community,” employee and son of the owner Nick Fetterman says. Best known for their Reubens, they serve a wide array of items from sandwiches to ice cream to even coffee.
Ever since his first job, Scott knew he wanted to work in the food industry. “I loved watching customers enjoy the food that I made, and that stuck with me,” Scott says. His first-ever job was in a market in St. Louis. “My job was to make sandwiches and work the deli counter.” While he was in college, he decided that he wanted to start his own deli, and for 25 years, he worked in the grocery business before finally acting on his plans and signing a lease on December 12th, 2022.
Though starting the business was not easy at all. When he first acted on his plans, he was caught by a sense of realization on how hard it really is to start your own business.
“Suddenly you’re responsible for everything, from pricing products, choosing vendors, managing employees, marketing, bookkeeping, taxes, fixing equipment- all at once,” Scott said. “At first, I tried to do everything myself. Slowly, I learned that I needed to rely on others and focus my energy where I could make the biggest impact.”
When asked what the future he wanted for Fetterman’s is, Scott’s response was simple – “My goal for the future of Fetterman’s is to build a brand that lasts, delivers great food, great service, and a sense of community wherever we go.”
Since the opening in Platte City, Fetterman’s has opened a new location in Parkville, signed several different deals with local brands, and garnered a great reputation amongst the North Kansas City food scene.
You can find Fetterman’s at 2405 NW Prairie View Rd, Platte City, MO 64079, and 7069 Elizabeth St Ste 100, Parkville, MO 64152.
