The annual winter sports signing was held on Jan. 28, which resulted in five individuals being selected for different colleges. This event recognized future collegiate athletes, showing how dedicated these students are to their sports.
Senior Danica Salisbury, signed to St. Louis Community College for softball.
“I love the coaches, and they make the team feel like a family vibe.” Salisbury said. “With me going into study radiology technology, I can get that degree done and over with in two years, so there’s no need to go to a four-year university,” Salisbury said.
Senior Rylee Carr, signed to Johnson Community College for basketball.
“They made me feel welcome and like that I’d fit in with their program, and they’re a good program.” Carr said. “I’m going to major in sports medicine.” Carr said. “Just growing up around, like, basketball my whole life. I just want to help athletes and go into the mental side of sports.”
Senior Gia DeRose signed to Graceland University for volleyball.
“I became aware of that school because a lot of my family went there, and I attended the same camp every year there, but then what really made me want to go is I earned full tuition there, so that was really helping me,” DeRose said.
Gia received scholarships for her leadership and dedication to volleyball.
“The major that I’m going to be in is allied health, and I’m going to try to get my doctorate there. As of right now, I’m thinking physical therapy, but that could change.” DeRose said. “I started taking the biomedical science classes since my freshman year, and I just really like all the hands-on work that we did throughout the years.”
There was an assortment of different sports, ranging from fall to spring.
Senior Cameron Buckwalter signed to Blackburn College for Baseball.
“I talked with a lot of the teammates there and athletes,” Buckwalter said. “I played a lot of sports, and when I was younger, I struggled with the yitz in baseball, and that’s why I picked I could help with their lives and sports.”
