Just a Song

There is a rotation of songs that play every year. The same songs, or what we call the “classics”. Some are great, but others just get on your nerves. Do most people have a Christmas playlist with their favorite songs, or do they just never turn on the radio? Is Christmas music a favorite or never? A lot of people have named Christmas music among the “most annoying genre ever”.

Sophomore Arin Lee, a member of Pirate Treasures, loves Christmas music. Her favorite song is “Last Christmas” by Wham. That song is her favorite because “It’s good and tells a love story”. The song that she hates the most this time of year is “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey. She believes that it’s an “overrated song” and that “it gets played way too much”. Lee is not the only one who believes that.

Another student who doesn’t like “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is sophomore Jack Shroyer. It’s not that he doesn’t like the song itself but he doesn’t like it when it gets played too early and too soon before the holiday season.

“It’s annoying when they play it right after Halloween,” Shroyer said. He does enjoy listening to Christmas songs while shopping during the season.

Believe it or not, the best-ranked Christmas song is Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” It is also the number one least-favorite song in America.

There’s an article that says “Last Christmas” was robbed of the number one spot. It’s not only the biggest selling Christmas song, it’s also the most popular Christmas song of all time, but it’s also the best-selling single to never reach number one. There’s a wide variety of Christmas songs, they are either about love or being together or just about Santa. You either love them or you hate them.
