No matter what you want to do after high school, there is one day dedicated to finding out. If you want to attend trade school, a university, a community college, enlist, or heck, even if you have no idea, the College and Career Readiness Day is for you to figure that out.
An email was sent out to Juniors and Seniors containing a Google form asking what they wanted to do on October 28th (College and Career Readiness Day).
The options for Seniors were a college visit of their own, the MCC Campus visit, shadowing their desired job, visiting a Navy base, or just going to a day of work.
The Juniors had to pick between taking the ACT and the ASVAB. Unfortunately, due to the government being shut down, the students visiting the Navy base were not allowed to go because no one is allowed on base at this moment. Instead, they got split up and picked their second option. This day not only affects the students but also the teachers.
A lot of teachers think this day is very beneficial for the students to put into perspective that they either have 1 more year or a few more months to get an idea of what they want to do.
“Students explore different opportunities for jobs outside of high school, maybe things that they hadn’t thought about before”, Mrs.Glidewell, Platte County High School Theater Teacher, is not the only teacher who thinks that, but some of the students don’t feel the same.
“I don’t care for it too much, and I don’t care for that college,” Said Senior Samantha Corey when asked why she decided to skip.
Corey isn’t the only senior who decided to skip that day; it’s estimated that at least 5 Seniors skipped. The reason because they weren’t attending that particular college and didnt have any interest in going.
This brings the question that if the Seniors could vote on where they are visiting, would the attendance that day be higher?
