FCCLA took a trip to Trenton, Missouri, for the FCCLA regional meeting. Keynote speaker Dr. Doug Luffborough spoke about how he grew up. Senior Alleysia Hatfield on what happens at the regional meeting,
“I think regional meetings give everybody kind of like an opportunity to figure out more of what does and see like all the different people from different communities that are involved,” senior Alleysia Hatfield said.
One of the things Luff talked about was the three chairs a high schooler sits in throughout their career in school: the chair of the quitter, the chair of the camper, and the chair of the climber.
The chair of the quitter is when you give up before you reach your goal. The chair of the camper is when you stop trying before you reach your goal, and you are content with where you are. And the chair of the climber is when you never stop, no matter how successful you are, and you just keep trying to do more.
“He said the me I see, it’s the me I’ll be.” junior Emma Brinkman said. “I like how it’s somewhat based on the community and working to help other people.”
A huge part of FCCLA is how much every student who is involved loves helping out the community and each other.
“I think what really resonated with me was his [Dr. Doug Luffborough’s] story of how he went from being homeless to then going to Harvard, and how he told himself that he was never going to stop climbing to achieve his goals,” junior Lanie Brown saidA
