A blast of flavor appeared in Southern Platte City. This wasn’t a supernatural force, but a food truck. J.H. Mexican American offers a plethora of Mexican street food and drinks. You can find this food truck by the Platte County Election office (near the YMCA).
J.H. Mexican American has a huge menu selection with Tortas to Quesabirria tacos – all of which are extremely filling.
On the left of the picture, you can find the Party Fries. You also have the option to switch the fries to tortilla chips, which offer a crispier take on the dish. The party fries rep jalapenos, lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, and a meat of your choice. It also comes with a side of queso if you like cheesy fries.
In the middle, you can spot the breakfast burrito, which is also available with your meat of choice. The circumference of the burrito was similar to that of an Owala bottle. The burrito is filled with a surprisingly heavy weight of eggs, cheese, and, in my case, Carne Asada. It had a warm, hearty flavor.
On the very right is the star of the show, the Quesabirria tacos. It is one of the more famous Mexican street food options. The tacos usually include onions and cilantro with a side of lime to drizzle over the top. The meat is usually going to be a special type of beef; the beef has a similar texture to that of a roast or pulled pork. At the top of the plate, you can see Mexican fried rice. Usually, when ordering Quesabirria tacos, it will come with a side of Consommé de Birria, which is what the meat is cooked in. Unexpectedly, mine did not come with this. This was no issue, though, as the tacos were flowing with juices and broth, giving me no troubles with dryness at all. The lime added a zesty flair to the tacos as well.
Mexican food in Platte City has always been a staple, with El Maguey, Rapidos, and Urban Street Taqueria in town. J.H. Mexican American offers good competition to these well-known restaurants and hopes the business succeeds for years to come.
