As an average soda lover, I am always finding different ways to enjoy my lovely bubbly beverage. So, when I heard that a soda version of Starbucks had opened on Barry Road, right next to one of the best food places Barry has to offer, Hawaiian Bros, it was like hearing the trumpets sound from heaven
Swig, originating from Utah, has grown in popularity as its menu offers non-alcoholic and coffee-free drinks, even going as far as offering energy drinks as a substitute. Using “Reviver” as their brand of energy drink, they combine it with different versions of lemonade, fruit flavoring, and even possibly coconut cream, yuck.
Another reason it has grown so quickly in popularity was its appearance in the tv show, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which had many fans questioning what they were drinking. Soon, the media began to investigate and found that the “Dirty Little Secret” drink came from the now-famous Swig.
Each soda is “spiked” with combinations of different creams, syrups, and even gummy sharks. With each drink varying in flavor, they also carry a unique name for each drink, ranging from Cherry Bomb to Texas Tab, Strawberry Breeze, Busta Limes, and even Beach Babe.
Not only do they offer countless drinks, but they also include a snack menu that provides not only cookies but also the equivalent of Aunty Anne’s pretzel bites, which could be dipped in white cheddar cheese or strawberry cream cheese. And if your belt is feeling a little loose, they also provide blended sodas and even frozen hot chocolate for those looking for a sweet treat.
When browsing the menu, my mouth started to water at the many different possibilities. In the end, my friends and I decided to try out the Butter Beer. I fondly remember the taste of sweet carbonated butter, hinting with a splash of vanilla, all mixed with Root Beer. Just writing this is making me ready to go back and try it again.
If you’d like to visit Swig, the newest and closest location is 8502 N Jefferson St, Kansas City, MO 64155. Starting prices range from $1.85 for a kids cup to $2.90 for a basic 44oz.
