The NBA is talking about adding Two new expansion teams after this year’s season. People are speculating that the expansion teams are going to be in Seattle and Las Vegas, but there should be a clear choice in Kansas City, Missouri. We have already had an NBA team in the past in the Kansas City Kings before they relocated to Sacramento, California.
Kansas City would be the perfect place for an NBA team because Kansas City sports teams are already huge, and the market for sports in the area is becoming even bigger by the year. The Chiefs have won three championships in the last five years; the Royals won one in 2015, and Sporting KC won one in 2013. The newest KC team, the KC Current, made it to the championship in their second year, and fans are hoping for a bright future.
With the Royals making the playoffs last year, which was the first time in ten years, this is giving fans hope for this upcoming season. Fans are hoping they will do even better and make the playoffs again and go deeper in the playoffs.
As for the Chiefs, they are coming off their first season since 2014 where they missed the playoff and with their star quarterback going down with an ACL injury, not expected to be back until over halfway through the next season, fans are thinking the next season will be another playoff miss, but are hoping that the following year they will be able to go back to the Super Bowl.
An NBA team back in Kansas City would pull fans from both the Missouri and Kansas sides of KC, which would make even more fans and have Kansas City Sports fans more year-round sports.
Also, with an NBA team in KC, it would make it so that there is more diversity in the location of NBA teams, as there are four in California, three in Texas, two in New York, two in Florida, these states all have more than one NBA team and i think that one of the two new expansion teams would fit perfectly in KC.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has talked about how he would want in if the NBA expanded to KC, and he has also already joined in part ownership in the Royals, Sporting KC, and the Current. Mahomes also said that he believes that the NBA would work in KC and that it would be and that it would be an awesome environment. (Via The Kansas City Star)
